Learning in Music

All the teaching staff at Moorings Way Infant School are working with Meon Infant and Meon Junior School colleagues to identify how our curriculum will meet the needs of our children.

We believe it is important to plan the learning journey of the children from Year R to Year 6. Even though we are an Infant School, this doesn’t stop us planning what the children will learn when they leave us. This is vitally important. As 3 schools, we have joined together to produce a joint intention of what we want the children to learn. The following statements were produced by our subject teams in September 2019.

End of Year 2

By the time our children leave our school in Year 2, they will have experienced using tuned/untuned instruments including their voices expressively.  All children will have listened with increasing concentration to a wide range of music and experiment with being creative with sound. They will be able to perform to a range of audiences. Exploring and connecting with music will help our children find their place in the world.

End of Year 6

By the time our children leave our school in Year 6, they will have played and performed using musical instruments including their voices expressively with increased control.  All children will have listened with concentration and understanding to improve memory.

Children will improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the different elements of music, developing a love for music past and present. They will be able to use and understand musical notations. Exploring and connecting with music will help our children find their place in the world.
