Sports Funding

All primary schools in England are provided with an amount of money which must be spent on Sport in school during the academic year.

Whilst the money itself is ‘ring fenced’, schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

The provision of high quality sporting experiences can be secured through two main pathways:

  1. Opportunities for children directly
  2. Opportunities for children indirectly through development and training of staff
